Physical Education for 8th grade deals primarily with team sports. Possible units covered are Flag Rugby, Lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, weight lifting, softball,and Badminton. The primary objectives of the class are to give the students a basic knowledge of a variety of team sports and to instill competitiveness in playing the game, while also promoting good sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork. The grade level is split into two sections and each section meets every other day for the entire school year.
Earth’s Environmental Issues is a year-long science course designed to familiarize students with the principles of ecology and the impact of human actions on the environment. Students will explore current issues involving conservation, preservation, and restoration. They will use their understanding of ecological principles to discuss possible outcomes in our environment. Group activities, role playing, and problem solving allow students to theorize a variety of ways that these outcomes might impact their lifestyle, economy, and society as a whole.
Earth science is the study of Earth and space.Some Earth science topics include rocks, minerals, soil, volcanoes, earthquakes, maps, fossils, mountains, climates, weather, ocean water, and objects in space. This course is designed to familiarize students with these topics as well as Earth and space processes. Emphasis is placed on using their understanding to predict possible outcomes in our environment.Group activities, projects, and problem solving allow students the opportunity to theorize a variety of ways that these outcomes might impact their lifestyles and society as a whole.
